Being plugged into social media on campus means that you’re probably watching everyone do pretty much the same thing every weekend. There’s that mural where people take Snapchats, that restaurant with Instagram-worthy desserts, and that movie theater with the aesthetic vintage marquee… You know the drill. Same places, same predictable pics.
Do something that people aren’t already talking about—tread off the beaten path, maybe literally. Use these apps to find new adventures in your area!

LikeALocal

LikeALocal helps you feel, well, like a local! Everyone knows that bomb taco trucks and hidden natural wonders exist in their hometown, and LikeALocal can help you find those places near your college—or wherever you go. Great features of the app include Smart Stream, where the app uses your location to generate a short list of activities that’s ready whenever you open the app—you don’t even have to enter your zip code. Another awesome feature is that you can download the app’s content so that later you can access it offline. This is helpful when you’re traveling or if you find yourself someplace with poor cell service. LikeALocal is ideal if you have wanderlust but lack the funds to hop on a plane to Australia. And if you happen to be a local, use the app to point visitors in the right direction.

Road Trippers

My personal favorite, Road Trippers, offers two great features: Directions to help you get where you’re going and suggestions for fun stops along the way. It will tell you about everything from museums and historic sites to local restaurants and can’t-miss photo ops. I mean, that’s practically everything you need to adventure! Now do you see why it’s my fav? This app is a fun and convenient way to find amazing adventures without taking major detours along your route.

TV Food Maps

Are you a Food Network binge-watcher like me? Do you consider yourself an honorary citizen of flavor town? Then you have to download this app. TV Food Maps gives you restaurants in your area that have been featured on channels like Food Network and the Travel Channel. You might not be able to go behind the counter like Guy Fieri, but you’ll definitely get a glimpse of the action when you dine at these notable spots. Who knows—you might even discover that there are places near your college that have already been featured!

Eventbrite

Eventbrite is unique because it not only gives you recommendations for restaurants and places in your area, but it also offers a list of events you can participate in while you’re there! Find out about a corgi convention, a candy maker’s fair, or a silent disco happening in your neighborhood. Events like these will make your weekend unique and memorable and even give you a chance to meet people in your area.

Lonely Planet

Lonely Planet makes your travel itinerary for you! They offer entire city guides that include restaurants, attractions, and historic sites. This app is ideal if you want to take a last-minute weekend getaway but have minimal time to plan. Lonely Planet also offers booking services to keep all your planning in one place.
